As many prepared to take on the 160ft abseil, the Radio Lollipop team were firmly on the ground supporting the St Thomas' Abseil event with the coolest tunes and creative crafts. Of course, let's not forget all the bubble blowing that was needed.

Day 1, Friday 22nd September, and it was a chilly start for the team but they weren't about to let a bit of wind get in the way. There were regular shout outs for Radio Lollipop from the event host and many of the nurses came down to our stand to talk with us and find out when we would be starting back at the hospital...watch this space, announcement coming soon! What a great feeling to know that the hospital team have missed us and are looking forward to our return.

The team were shortly joined by a musical duo - a saxophonist and pianist - who performed a mixture of classics, recent releases and a couple of original songs in Swahili.

Unfortunately around lunchtime, the winds picked up and though it didn't quite take our marquee, it definitely caused a lot of damage.

Luckily the sun came out and the team lined up some summertime songs to get people up and moving and Encanto may have made an appearance in the line-up.

With the energy levels at its peak, two of our very own volunteers took on the challenge and went head-to-head with the 160ft abseil.

"How did you find it?"

"What an adrenaline rush, though it took me a few minutes to get my head around feet-on-the-ground then feet-dangling-in-the-air."

When the clouds made an appearance the Evelina London team kindly moved over their marquee to give us shelter, so it was only right to dedicate the next 30 minutes to them and put on some of their favourite songs! As the heavens opened it was time to call it a day and hope there wouldn't be a drop in sight for day 2.

A much drier and cooler day, the team were raring to go with stickers, googly eyes and crowns at the ready. It wasn't long before our volunteers were back up at the top of St Thomas' Hospital on the North Wing taking on the 160ft abseil, yet again! Such daredevils.

As we understand, a conversation which started in the lift over a bacon butty may have resulted in the recruit of a new Radio Lollipop volunteer.

Throughout the day a number of visitors came over to tell us how great our music was, secretly we think this was the way they planned to request their favourite songs.

"Radio Lollipop you definitely brought the energy. Thanks for keeping us going with all your awesome songs."

On that note, we'll sign off on that high and we'll see you again same time, same place next year.
