The RBC Race For The Kids event is an annual fundraiser, to raise money to help build a new world-class children's cancer centre and the development of cancer care at Great Ormond Street Hospital.

It was a very early start for the Radio Lollipop team on Saturday 7th October, as the Race For The Kids event had finally arrived. A quick set-up and the team were ready to go at 8:30am. At 8:35am the team were joined by 7 children all wanting to take part in craft activities and by 9:30am the team had already seen over 30 children at the Radio Lollipop table. To say that Radio Lollipop's crafts table was popular would be an understatement!

Medal making, crown decorating and glitter suncatchers were the most popular crafts throughout the day.

One very special craft, a 'Well Done' picture, was created by the very talented Zaura. This piece is now proudly being displayed in our studio at Great Ormond Street Hospital. "Thank you Zaura from all of the Radio Lollipop team, it was such a thoughtful surprise and you definitely made all of the smiles of the volunteers even bigger!"

As the runners, joggers and walkers made it over the finish line, Bernard the Bear made an appearance and was there to congratulate everyone as they made it over. We got a little wave hello too.

For some little ones, the day had become a bit much, queue team Lollipop and bubbles! From teary tots to lively little ones, it's the Lollipop way.

Nearly one hundred children later and the event was coming to an end, it was time to tidy up and call it a wrap. We discovered that one little one had decided to take the blue marker to the plastic covering, perhaps the 3 sheets of paper was just not enough. It was down to Super Sanj to take on the challenge armed with Clinell wipes. Finishing up with a blue hand, he was dubbed Smurfy Sanj for the rest of the afternoon.

With everything cleared away and packed down, it was time to take a seat and reflect on the day. It was in that moment the team realised they'd been so busy they'd forgotten to take a team picture, that was rectified in minutes and it's great to see the team were still all smiles.
